  • Aren't parents great?

Family Wayne spent last week on holiday in Devon (lush part o' the world), and usually when we go away we ask our neighbours if they'd mind tending to the plants whilst we're away - both on the plot and in the garden. We return the favour when they go away. However, this year due to some administrative error, both households were away at the same time.

So, I asked my Mum and Dad if they'd mind watering everything as I was pretty sure it was going to be hot and dry.

Messages got to me that they had been down to the plot and watered etc, so I rested assured that I'd come back to a plot free of wilted dying plants.

What I didn't expect was what greeted me on Sunday morning when I visited the plot.

Yes they'd watered everything, but they'd done so much more.

Cleared a load of weeds for me, tidied up my tools, trays, pots and so on and even left my two usually strewn about the place watering cans, neatly next to each other filled with water!

Clearly, the Devon fudge and pasties we bought back will need supplementing with lunch out in the not too distant future!

    Love 'em!

Parents are great, I agree. Lost mine a good few years ago now and still miss them. Whereabouts in Devon did you stay? I was born in Plymouth. Good on you for bringing back pasties and fudge, but what about the clotted cream??

Stayed in Beer and just randomly visited places about whilst we were there.

No clotted cream, but bought some proper bread, butter and beetroot hummus from HFW's place.

Clotted cream is one of the best things about Devon. Specially with scones and jam.

D'you know what. I think we only saw/noticed it in one shop - the little (fantastic) 'deli' in Beer.

Dunno, but I had some lush lemon and ginger ice cream in Sidmouth I think, or was it Exmouth...

Bean loved the raspberry ripple one too, and the vanilla one, and the strawberry one.

Oh, and there was a tasty honeycomb one somewhere too.

Controversial I know, but I have to say that the pasties we had from the little delishop in the village were better than any I've ever had in Cornwall. Loads of meat filling, and really tasty. Really tasty.
