This might be worth a try, take rhubarb stems and cut into 3inch pieces and place in the hole before you put plants in ( stood up ) apparently they dont like it.
Another one I was told the other day was to put lime down letting it go over the cabbages and the whites dont like this either, it gets washed off with the rain and of course when you wash it.
