  • What is eating my Salvia ?

I have a Salvia that was growing lovely from last year but something keeps eating the leaves, and it isn't slugs or snails as the leaves have no trace of slime and the leaves seem to have different patterns of eating than snails. What is this as no trace of caterpillars ?

Can you move it’s location…maybe indoors for a few days?
I’m thinking incase something is hiding and coming out at night. At least if it carries on you know it’s something from inside the potting compost.

(Would hate it to affect the healthy looking plants next to it)

Could be vine weevil - they notch the edges of leaves and leave no slime, usually come out at night. Worth checking the compost around the roots too as the grubs do more damage than the adults.

Thanks. Yes I have seen the odd beetle in the area where this plant is. I have lost so many plants over early spring to this pest. I'll have a look inside the pot . Keeping it in the greenhouse for now.

Are you 100% sure it's not slugs/snails Marb?

If Joao's suggestion of checking the pot for signs of vine weevils doesn't provide an answer I'd definitely follow Nicos' advice as that sounds like a really good idea - I'd be really upset if the culprit decided to snack on those lovely healthy looking Tomato plants!

It's def not slugs and snails because they have definite cut patterns, not slimy slug or snail munchings. Don't worry, the toms are ok and don't have any pests that eat the leaves.
