Mine is the same, so I take him with me. When I leave him, he has the Cat (usually asleep) and the radio is left on, for company for him. He also has a basket of toys and chews to keep him occupied.

They usually only make a noise when they know there is someone within ear-shot. My old neighbours left two German Shepherds in their house all day, every day. They used to go berserk if anyone went past. The rest of us laughed when one day, one of them broke into the lounge, which was at the front of the property. Someone went past, and the dog lost the plot. Totally. The net curtains were shredded, the heavy curtains were pulled down, rail and all, and the sofa was trashed! Great!

    We moved.

I'd start by putting a note through their doors, personally. I know you're not there every day, but you can bet they're noisy when you're away, too. Poor sods.

The neighbour with the new dog used to walk the other dog - but not sure anyone is doing it now. The dog hears me at home and just howls the place down I think...poor thing.

Poor you. We had a neighbour whose house garden is at right angles to ours so every time I went to the compost bin the dogs barked, often making me jump as I couldn't see them over the fence. The owner was out all day from very early to late. Next door complained to Environmental Health and had to keep a diary of noise. Once the dog owner complained my children playing in the garden, kicking a ball I think, upset her dogs!! This was after years of yapping dogs. We all cheered when she moved out. New lady also has a dog which we never hear. You have my sympathies.

Probably very much like the dogs that belong to Zaz's neighbours.
Nor me, I just hear them on weekends I do tell my wife to go out and shut them up if they go mad during the week though (she's at home - looks after the kiddies rather than them going into daycare or whatever).

But it's only if they can't see each other (bit dull like that), the cat is there (which hardly happens now), or they've laid an egg.

I'm paranoid about it and go out the moment they start to stop them, but my immediate neighbours don't mind at all - they love it as it reminds them of their childhood...

The other boring so and so that I've heard muttering before I popped my head over the fence... he's a diff story

I let mine bark a warning. Generally towards delivery men or postie, etc. They then get an "it's all right" reassurance from me, which sees it move into a very low "gruff" or growl. I want my dogs as a burglar deterrent. They are not just pets but guard is too. I don't agree with dogs being left all day though either. Certainly not a pup. Mine travel with me if I go shopping unless there is another family member at home. They also keep me company/play guard me at the Lottie.
Everyone makes noise of some kind or another. It's excessive noise that warrants a warning. Other than that I accept that my neighbour's dogs may yap, the birds may squawk or the teenagers may have a party. That's life.

Yup - neighbour 2 doors down has got a new dog.

If he timed it better to be in tune with next door's dog - home all day - it could be:

See, a few folk have muttered about my chickens by me. They're noisy when they lay, or if a cat/bird of prey is around. That's it - perhaps twice a day of clucking that lasts a min or so at max.

They don't moan about the s*dding dog that barks all day long either. They do shut up when I mention this though
