    Japonica query

    We've got some sort of triffid-like Japonica near the greenhouse.

    It grows pretty fast and ferociously, and I'd like to clip it back, as it's practically obstructing the greenhouse door!

    I don't want to kill or remove it though as it hides our huge metal water butt.

    Does anyone know if I can just prune the offending leaves without damaging the plant?

    Hi OWG, You will not hurt the plant by cutting it back. It can even be treated like a hedge. When you do cut it be just a but ruthless as it grows fast and had some nasty spines.

      I agree can be just like a triffid!
      I have the cultivar "Rubella" and it is very good in clay soil, which i am lucky enough to have plenty of!!!
      I also cut my Japonica back hard about once every two years, and have not had any problems
