  • What do I do with my strawberry plants through the winter?

I have seven healthy, big and bushy strawberry plants that I grew from seed this year. They currently reside at one end of a veggy raised bed as, at the time, I had nowhere else to put them when they got too big for the pots. I want to move them from the raised bed as I'll need the space for veggies next year so the plan is to put them into their own raised bed. My questions:

    Can/should I move them?
    When should I do it?
During the winter, is it just a case of protecting them from frost with a fleece as they are?

Any advice would be gratefully received; I'd hate to lose them to cold weather after coming this far and would really like to get them going in their own bed to give lots of juicy fruit next season. This is my first year of growing anything, by the way.

I would wait a bit and when they are dormant move them. BTW welcome to the vine.

Hello TeaMonsta & welcome to the vine. As mentioned above, move them when dormant, along with any runners you may have, these can be removed & planted separately or left attached to the parent plant until they become more established then separated from the parent. They are frost hardy so no protection is needed.

Thanks folks. I'm a total newbie so I'm assuming that I can tell when they're dormant by the fact that no more leaves or flowers are growing (?)
