You are aware they taste like washing up liquid right?

It's a tropical fruit so I would think you would need a greenhouse, probably heated, to get any fruit.

Starfruit is a tropical that will never succeed in Britain. But don't worry, because you're not missing anything. Starfruit is pretty, but it's tart and bland. I live in Hawaii, and I would never bother growing it.

Should I go out to the kitchen and try the dishwashing liquid to see what I'm missing?

We had friends who grew Starfruit in Florida. They'd serve them sliced across and embedded in pancakes for Sunday brunch - we didn't try them raw but cooked that way they were delicious and pretty.

There was a time when everything you ordered in a restaurant seemed to have a slice of starfruit garnish - as if they didn't quite know what else to do with them but they looked appealing!

Actually, for a better simulation of starfruit, mix a little bit of lemon juice with a lot of water, don't add any sugar or flavor, and there you have imitation starfruit flavor. Yuck!
