I have 2 patio apple trees that are 5 years old and have never produced any fruit. The flowers and stalks always fall. I read about ensuring adequate water(done once a day) and using osmocote plant food but again the flowers and stalks are dying off.

What varieties are they please ? -
Apples are mostly not self fertile. They need pollination by a different variety. Also, different varieties flower at different times, so the trick is to get two different varieties that both flower at the same time so they pollinate each other. Unless you have crab apples nearby, which seem to have a longer flowering period and will cross pollinate a lot of domestic apples.Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land

where abouts are you?, what apple trees do you have ?, are they in pots?, if so, what size? what type of soil are they in?, do they get good sunlight each day where they are?, all this will affect the trees health and vigor. As I understand it you need trees that will pollinate each other, not all the same type, good light to encourage growth, good sized tubs (if not planted in the ground) to allow good root growth, I use 50ltr tubs, john innes No3 compost is a must, any MPC is a waste of money, and plenty of water, in hot weather I give each of mine a bucketful a day and in spring I throw a handful of blood, fish and bone onto the compost surface and let the rain wash it in. I have 7 trees in tubs and we get plenty of fruit from them, even apricot,peach and nectarine do well, and that makes 10 tubs..Comment
