  • Net bags for melons - where from please?

    Dear all,

In anticipation please... to avoid the disasters of last summer when I tried all sorts of ways of supporting melons...

WHERE oh where can I buy some proper net melon bags - suitable for Canteloupe and the likes? By 'proper' I mean those nice, trendy little 'bags' that are made made especially for the purpose.

Please DON'T anyone dare suggest using nets from those grotty ASda tangarines, my wife's tights, or scraps of old fishing mesh salvaged from the beach... etc. etc. Aggghhhh

I have saved my pennies and am prepared to 'pay through the nose' to avoid all that palaver again!

I have also often tried looking for 'melon net' on Ebay, but there never appear to be any.

    Thank you,

    Keith

I had good success with pea netting last year cut into a circle with twine threaded round the edge and hung from the support wire, I did thinks of tights but the wife doesnt wear them so it would be expensive to just buy them new for the purpose.

That's funny I just saw this thread, My first thought was to reach for the crochet hook and some wool. I was not sure if it would work. I want to try some melons this year It is years since I last grew them and I only got a couple of small cantilope type. looks like I'm gona be busy for a few evenings! LOL

I saved the stretchy netting that was over our Christmas tree, cut into sections, knotted the end and used that. Didn't know you could get purpose-made melon nets.
