  • Fruity Tuesday

Have I mentioned that Tuesday is not just Chooks Day but its Fruits Day too - the day when I do something with Fruit - be it sowing, planting, pruning, picking or eating.

Weather permitting tomorrow, I shall be cutting back some raspberries and gathering windfall apples.
Do you have anything Fruity planned?

Going to pick damsons and make jam, and gather apples for drying and chutney.
All at once I hear your voice
    And time just slips away

I'll be picking raspberries and blackberries, need to check if I've missed any apples. It looks like it'll be too wet today to to much else.

You haven't missed it at all, Mike - so off you go and get fruity with Ruby.

a fruity ruby? a banana vindaloo?

Getting back to more serious fructarial matters, I only got two pears this year (first year they were in). Fingers crossed for next year.

In a couple of dry hours this afternoon, I removed the path between 2 of the triangular Beds 19a and 19b and planted 3 blueberries in the "path" that was. 19b was already home to a few blueberries so they're all in a squarish bed together now. Cosy.

Then the rain arrived so I retreated to the GH and took some cuttings of the Chilean Guava that NG sent me a couple of years ago. Thanks NG, its doing well.

The raspberries were too soggy to pick or prune and the apples were left for a dry day.

Although it doesn't sound like much, I'm happy with what I've done.

First dryish Tuesday that I've been able to do something outdoors. Weeded around the Blackcurrants and rhubarb. Doesn't sound like much but the rhubarb was invisible, totally swamped by grass, that creeping, sprawling grass that overwhelms everything in its path.
Apart from pondering how "active" I was in the garden, I also pondered why grass grows so energetically where I don't want it and is a "weed", whilst there are bare patches in the "lawn" that would benefit from new growth.
Why is grass in the right place (lawn) a good thing and has hours spent on mowing it each week in summer, whilst grass in the wrong place is a weed and has to be dug up for hours. Is the "lawn" in the wrong place?
