  • The bare-root gooseberry season is here!

As of today my bare-root gooseberries are in the ground. I'm expanding my selection of old varieties with Yellow Champagne, Early Sulphur and Leveller from RV Roger. I know these are supposed to be quite mildew prone, but so are Whinham's Industry and Langley Gage and I've never had a major problem with them in our garden, so fingers crossed.

At the same time, my Rokula and Invicta bushes bit the dust this year. The Rokula wasn't quite dead, but it suffered quite a lot of die-back so I decided to just take them out.

How do you like these new gooseberries? How do they taste? Which is your favorite variety?
