Anybody grown a Mulberry Tree?

I would love one as I really enjoy the fruit.

There was one in the local University grounds grown as the centrepiece to a lawned area. It was only about six foot high and laden with fruit (which I naturally had to sample!)
I don't know whether it was on dwarfing rootstock as they are perported to make massive trees!

Write to the Queen and ask for advice. There's apparently several in the backyard of Buckingham Palace.

there are two types 1. black mulberry which produces the large edible fruits
2. white mulberry whic produces small (tiny)whitish fruits and was mainly grown for its leaves for silk production.
The black one is easy to prpagate from cuttings (just stick a branch in the ground)

My dads got one and we put sheets under the branches when the fruit is ripe and shake the trunk and they all fall on the sheets. Great fun.

Nigel Slater mentioned on his programme a few weeks ago that he had his 10 years and this was the first year it had fruited. Apparently it takes a minimum of 8 years for it to fruit. I did not know this when I ordered mine. But good things come to those who wait I suppose.

I helped my Dad plant two, about seven years ago. One died, the other is growing well, but has not fruited yet. Fingers crossed.

I cut a branch & stuck it in a pot (as the ground was frozen), will see it it roots, there was a branch that seemed rooted but the ground was too frozen to get that.
