  • Wormery

Wormery arrived yesterday complete with bedding and worms very exciting sitting in the lounge watching them settle in (not much on TV)
They are now in the garage and it says weigh the lid down for a couple of weeks. Good job we did as checked on them today and a couple were trying to get out

For the next 2 weeks they will eat their bedding and then its kitchen waste all round

Worm wee on my veggies here we come

Wormeries are great. Can't believe how quickly they get through the scraps. Though if they don't like something, it will be there for a very long time.

Just make sure you don't feed them too much too soon, it seems to be the most common problem with new wormeries. You're much better starting them off with a little bit of food and gradually ramping it up over a few weeks, otherwise you run the risk of it all going smelly and manky and I'm told it's not at all nice.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I started my wormery off too yesterday. I put a couple of bricks on top and I saw a few slimey trails in the condensation on the sides so some must have tried to escape.

If you have a tap on your wormery, drain it off regularly as the first batch I had drowned!! Also if the worms start making their way towards the lid, if you leave the lid up for about 10 minutes, they will make their way back down to the compost, as they don't like the light. Good luck and happy wormerising!
