This entry will end up being quite long so as to bring everything up to date.
We moved into our lovely new home in November 2012. Loads of lovely big space to design the perfect garden in. Having said that, it is actually quite daunting to design a garden on a blank canvass when you are a rank amateur.
It was a shock however to discover 90% of the garden is concrete, with just some mounds of lawn. So raised beds is the only answer.
Instead of normal rectangular ones, I have decided on four tear drop ones that will form the shape of butterfly wings. The plans look fantastic on paper, but the proof will be in the pudding.
The beds will be screened from the rest of the garden by pleached fruit trees, with an arch into the bed area.
There will be a large patio and beds in the rest of the garden. This end will have a scented theme. I want to grow as many scented plants as possible here. Lawns are banned in this garden, but I will have my swathes of green in the form of, camomile lawns and Heath pearlwort lawns.
The foundations for the beds were begun at the end of Feb by my darling OH not the best time of year for working outside.
Feb 2014
The walls are in the process of being built. It's all taking a bit longer than I thought it would.
The four beds will be separated by gravel paths The central Avenue has even been given a name " Avery Avenue" from the carry on film "Carry on Screaming" (don,t ask!)
to date it looks like this
