  • Very positive Allotment news..

After speaking to the guy from our parish council today I have a good feeling about the allotment wait..

Not the fact that I am now up to a very respectable 33rd on the list, the District council has given the go-ahead for a brand new site!!

They have already come to an agreement with a local farmer, they are now in the process of organising fencing, gates water supply.

It wont be soon but at least progress is happening!!

Update - I'm now 23rd on the list.

Although I'm told the wait is still two years.

        Over a year ago - 2year wait (40th)
        Early feb - 2year wait (33rd)
        now - 2 year wait (23rd)

I dont think they really know how long the wait is, just say two years it sounds good!

My local places tell me people hop on the bandwagon, without realise the amount of work involved. Let the plot go, and are subsequently asked to leave. The one I really want to get on is not only near me, but the woman in charge of it has a zero tolerance for letting a plot go un worked (unless there's a valid reason), which she really does hammer home before allowing you on the list

Hi, yes the one i'm trying to get on (and the only one in our tiny town) is quite strict, in the rules it says a certain % must always be cultivated and/or actively growing vegetation etc etc. With regular inspections.

They did explain alot of people think its a good idea, then work out its alot of effort and give up. I have vowed not to be one of those!!

Just thought i'd update on my allotment wait, spoke to the council - its been over two years.
              I'm still 23.

Apparently no-one has acyually had a wait of two years, they always give that as a rough guide - lol

The plans for a new allotment appear to have fallen flat, i'm told they are in the 'pipeline'.

Looks like another year cramming everything into my tiny space.
              Never mind!

How disappointing for you when you had got your hopes up. Do you know anyone on the site who would like some help with theirs?

i have been known to hang aroung outside the gates, the annoying thing is there is very rarely anyone down there, and all the plots look immaculate!! Grrrrr...
In rerality though it may be better to not have one whilst my youngest daughter is soo small, a couple more years and i might be able to reason with her not to eat the earwigs! haha!

You could be right. My youngest ( a snail eater!!) was at school when I got mine so I had some time during the week when I wasn't at work. A very keen new plotter took over the plot next to mine in January and has two little ones ( under 1 and around 3 at the time) and she has struggled to the extent that I think she is now sharing it with someone. If the plots are well tended I suppose that when finally one comes up you hopefully won't have to machete your way through a jungle first!

apparently the plots are not all immaculate!
Spoke to the guy that gives out the plot, he's sending 9 plot holders letters asking them to 'use it, or lose it!'

Still at 23 on the list, but hopefully moving on up soon!
The district council have halted the new site plans - bunch of planks!

Good luck with your plight though.
It must be very frustrating never to be moved up the list
Still, looking on the bright side, it means you'll be a gardening expert when you get it
