Default Red ants!

Have noticed nibble marks on swiss chard and Rocket.. thought I was having a few sticky night-time visitors, what with the copper tape peeling away with the rain, anyway laid a few homemade traps (top cut off a plastic bottle and then inverted and stappled with some sweet squash undiluted inside and bottle laid on its side with soil ramp) and then this morning went to see what I caught - Loads of RED ANTS, seems they have a nest in the root bed and are having a nibble! As much as Ants are interesting, don't really want to loose my crop to them, anyone got any good ideas as catching 9-15 a night in a bottle seems a slow way to do it, plus they get clever don't they?!
