Default Green things / What have I got??????

I have been digging over my plot and a few times (in different locations) I have noticed these aluminous green maggot / caterpillar things in the ground. They are living quite far down and I have never seen them near the surface and each time I have come across one there are not any others near it.

The reason I call them maggot / caterpillar things is because they have legs like a caterpillar but are fat and stumpy like a maggot.

What are they and are they doing any harm to my plot? Do I need to be worried about them?

Hi Silverfox, I think they're probably moth caterpillars if they are quite big & fat & shouldn't be a problem but if you are worried I'd just dig around & leave them on the surface for birds to eat.

I got lots of them. I even found one in my jacket pocket. I was rummaging for a hanky and got a fingerfull of squashed caterpillar, gross. I throw them for the birds

Could they be maybug larvae?
