| We moved into our house back in October. It has got 4 fruit trees. One I know to be a pear (we were eating them when we moved in), the others may be plums, not quite sure. We have found some nasty fungus like stuff on one of the. I don't know what it is and what to do about it. It has got at least 6 - 8 patches of it on 3 different branches and in varying clump sizes and it is growing fairly rapidly ![]() |

| Although it is an imature specimin it looks like a Ganoderma or a bracket fungus, the problem now is to find out wether it is a fungi that feeds just on the dead wood or one that is a parasite that will eventually kill the tree. |

| Hi all you are a very welcoming bunch! I have obviously come to the right forum! I guess I should share a bit about me then ... As a child I was really lucky to be brought up with a mini-menagerie. It was quite idyllic - we lived in the countryside, surrounded on 3 sides by fields (great for the hayfever ). I had 3 goats that i bottled fed from babies, chickens, pet ducks, tortoises, guinea pigs, rabbits, dog, cat etc etc etc Now I am happily married and we have recently moved to a home we can see as being very long term. Not quite the idyll that i grew up in, but a big enough garden to have some fun with! It was the garden that really sold the house to us. My chickens will be here at the beginning of next month, I am trying to grow vegetables from seed (and squeal with joy every time a new seedling sprouts ), and have the strawberries in growbags. We have only been here 5 months so we have lots to do in and out. We salvaged some traditional old railway sleepers and next year hope to have a decent sized raised veg patch in place. The composter is in place and being used, so we should also have some pretty decent compost ready for next year too. We both work full time so it has to all be done on a manageable level, but at 31 I am thrilled to be able to have a life that I could only have dreamed about 5 years ago. Now if I could only help my poorly fruit tree out I will be well away! Bet you wish you hadn't all been so welcoming now given my war and peace extract LOLClaire |

| Great to get to know you Claire. You'll really enjoy your home grown produce. I've been growing my own veg since my kids were small (they are now 35 and 32) but I still squeal when a new seedling comes up. I shout to OH to come and look! I've only been here for a month but the folks are great - very friendly and sharing.
