So, I got an old sturdy rubbish bin, put a tap in the bottom and stuffed it half full with comfrey leaves. Topped up with water, stirred regularly and added more comfrey leaves when available and topped up with water. Great tea. Soon my comfrey will not have any more leaves so what do I do with the stinking mess in the bin. Add more water and keep it, spread out on plot or put it in the compost bin? I have an exposed windy site so the smell will waft away quickly.

You just use it like liquid tomato feed. Put some in a can of water and feed your plants.
You can put comfrey leaves straight into a planting hole as a natural fertiliser too. -

I've been using it for months as a liquid feed, what I' really asking is what to do with the mess in the bottom of the bin. I would keep using it for another few weeks yet, but after that there isn't much that is going to want feeding. Drain of the liquid into containers for use as an early feed in spring and put the gunge onto the compost heap or into a bean trench for next year. You might want to think about putting the leaves into a pair of tights before making your liquid feed next year as it doesn't create the gunge then.

Vixen, its only a stupid question if you know the answer, otherwise its part of the learning curve..lol. Comfrey is a big spreading plant, herb I think. Has nice big leaves which is what you stick in water to make the liquid feed. Think any nitrogen rich leaves would do similar job, nettles work great, someone with more know than me will no doubt come up with othersAnyone who says nothing is impossible has never tried slamming a revolving doorComment

Hi Vixen. Nobody asks dumb questions here, we are just curious. Comfrey is I think a herb. It produces masses of very large leaves which we cut down 3 or 4 times a year. They can be used as a mulch, some put them in the bottom of a potato trench. They are rich in several important nutrients. If you leave them to flower the bees love them. Many make a tea by either as I have done in a container and covered them with water others just pack them into a container with no water and it produces a dark liquid which has to be diluted (20:1) and use it as a foliar feed.
