  • What can I grow in ...

    wet, heavy, compacted soil?

    Trying to expand my veg plot and been weeding and digging a new area today, but not sure what to plant in it ... any suggestions please.

    Potatoes and Jerusalem artichokes would help break up the soil.

      I'm not sure you will have time this season but come autumn, I would consider raised beds or this:-

        Compaction can be relieved. It will only be wet because it is compacted.

        Relieve the compaction by double digging if necessary, add loads of organic material and grit if need be.
        If by heavy you mean clay soil, tatties will thrive in it!

          Thanks for responses ... looks like a bit more digging to do ... although the idea of a no-dig garden is really appealing
