MY MIL gave me one but never used it as it scared the life out me - it always sounded like it was about to explode!

I've been thinking about one of these for a while for the weeds between my paving stones.

I'm always worried about gas powered things - ever sinve I saw someone's house blow up as they'd left the gas on and turned a light on ...... ( on the telly BTW)

The principle certainly works, hit a weed with a blast of weed and it disrupts just about every message that the plant is sending internally. I once used a Sheen flame gun which uses paraffin on a bank covered with snowberries. The roots go metres deep, I was on a hiding to nothing - until that thing hit them. Years later, they were still on the back foot.
Sheen flameguns of course are designed for the job, and have a shield that helps concentrate the heat. (Seriously scary to get going though !)
I have a small weed wand that uses backpacking gas cylinders, it works on small stuff but only on windless days because the heat dissipates so fast without a shield. There's not many windless days about these days...!

my father just bought himself a flame thrower to kill weeds. It's another plaything in his magic box of tools.

I'd say they are like chainsaws - very useful in very specific circumstances, useless the rest of the time.
Use it on anything with lots of rhizomes or stolons and it will act like Roundup, don't be surprised if your neighbours at the lottie want a go for sycamore or cherry suckers etc.
If you use it for common weeds as well, you will find out how expensive gas is...

I've had one for years - it's like a walking stick with a gas cannister on the handle. It's great and so much more eco-friendly than weed-killers. I've also used it to make crème brulée

Ah yes, I forgot, much better than a chainsaw for creme brulee !

And deicing a pathway in winter

Saw these in Lidl's this morning although they were not propane ones so left them alone. Was half tempted mind. Quite cheap at £15

Having just checked the site they are indeed propane ones. Could have sworn i read electro something or other as the fuel :/
