  • today i am sowing tomatoes

Ok, i have been sat here now for hours it seems like and i have been ruthless, and out of about 200 varieties i have shortlisted it down to 38!!!! It is still a ridiculous amount, but i cannot bring myself to take any others out, in fact the longer i am sat here more are creeping into the must sow list.

I seem to love the basics,
    Money maker,
    Ailsa Craig,
    Alicante,
    Tamina,
    Pomodoro Ciliergia
    Gardners Delight
    basic cherry,
so this year i am going to do a couple of each and decide which ones are best and only sow the best ones next year, but then again it varies every year and i most likely will forget this time next year. Too mush tomato stress :roll eyes:

Even if i am a good girl and only keep 2 or 3 of each, i will still have 100 plants. I made the same mistake last year, and planted out about 170 plants, to be fair they all got used, but it is so time consuming. Oh gosh what to do

Lisa goes running outside loosing it throwing tomato seeds everywhere...............

    Only 38!!
Somehow I have let myself in for growing all the tomatoes in the Tomato Seed Circle (about 50) and there are some more that I really want to grow too. Probably be growing about 60 - though where they'll go I haven't a clue!!

    Scarlet - where are you??
    How many are you growing?

VC, please concentrate on the ones VSP doent have seeds. rest you can plan for next year

otherwise you end up making plant markers and seed lables..

you also have more runner beans, courgettes and 500 brassica plants

I'm sticking to my guns this year - 8 varieties and no more...........probably.

Ok another 8 made their way into the sow list but only 2 seeds of each to save 1 plant

Only got 9 varieties planted up, this is going to take forever at this rate

I'm going to sow 2 seeds of 6 varieties a week for 10 weeks which takes me to the middle of March. That gives me enough time to resow the failures. I aim to have one plant of each apart from a few favourites, like Rambling Red Stripe.

You lot put me to shame!

Only five types for me this year and a couple, Ailsa Craig and Gardeners Delight are old favourites. The other three are Black Russian (the big ones), Tigerella and a new (for me) green shouldered late maturing beefsteak variety called Muchamiel Tardio.

                            All are OP varieties!

                              Here's a photo from May http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ml#post1348365
I grew 4 plants (in the nearest 2 growbags) Took armpits from them for the next 2 Growbags on the shelf, and later in the year, took some more armpits and grew a 3rd lot of toms which were still cropping in November.
                              Nice tasting, stripy, cherry toms.
                              They'll be sown this week.
