  • Sweetcorn ripening query..

    Hi all,

Some of the silks (?) on my cobs are brown, but when peeling back they're green inside beneath the outer leaves..

Are these ripe yet? When I've peeled all the way back, I can see some corns on the cob, but they're not yellow - much paler, and small near the top. Some pics attached for ref:

    Thanks.

They're not ready yet. Leave them a bit.

Thought so - thank you.. do the silks go brown all the way to the cobs?

Not always, but they go a lot browner than yours are at the moment. Even then you really need to look at the corn itself.

Mine won't be ready for a few more weeks yet. The tassels are brown but the corn has not even started to swell yet.

Chris, don't even have a peek until the silks are like blackened, burnt hair
