It is time again to select sets for winter overwinter onions. Does the size of the set have a bearing on the final product? I have been told that smaller sets produce bigger onions. My experiments have been inconclusive but is there a proven correlation?

I usually start mine off in modules till they develop roots and try to pick out the smaller ones for this. Still plant the bigger ones straight into the ground, but haven't compared results properly. Must be more observant.Comment

I always plant all the sets regardless of size. I know I end up with a wide variety of size at finish but couldn't tell you which ones started small and which ones started big.
