  • Seed Viability

I have a few packets of seeds that i opened last year, sowed a few seeds out of the pack then folded top down and stuck with sellotape.
These were mainly dwarf beans and CACA and Chard.
Should I do the chit test first or do you think that the seeds will be ok just to sow as normal?

Am I correct in thinking that viable seeds sink when put in a glass of water where as none viable seeds float.

They should be fine Steve. I always chit my beans before planting them though, whether they are new seeds or not.

Where's Zaz, I'm sure she was looking for examples of doubling words in threads.

          What doubling of words BM?
Steve, I think all of those seeds should be fine. Most of my beans are in envelopes. CACA and chard germinate quickly so you'll soon find out!

In my post "float" is doubled & in RL's post "seeds" is doubled.

It's not doubled on my screen!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

It is on mine. As far as the seeds go Steve, all mine have germinated ok from last year's packets. As far as the testing in water goes BM, I thought that was to determine whether eggs are good or bad!

BTW for anyone who is unsure, CACA is Cut And Come Again salad leaves. I would hate for anyone to be confused
