  • Potato leaves curling upwards

Hey folks, sorry to bust straight in with this as the first post but i'll make sure to drop by the introduce myself forum.

I was just wondering if anyone had any idea why my potato plants are starting to curl up a bit. There are 3 beds, 2 different varieties and they're all starting to do it, it doesn't look like the contaminated manure problem from last year but it's worrying none the less.

The soil isn't the best but they've been fed well with pelleted chicken manure and watered when the soil starts to parch. The plants were growing tall and fast then suddenly seemed to stop moving so dramatically. i've included a photo (hopefully, if i can get it workin'), any advice at all is appreciated.

    thanks

It looks like a shortage of water to me. If you are watering them when the soil is dry the roots will be tempted to the surface and not root deep down where the moisture will be. Best thing you can do is water late at night when it is cool and make sure the water goes deep down into the ground.

thanks tattieman, i took your advise and gave them an extra heavy watering tonight. I think i was underestimating how much water they've been sucking up recently.

will know in a few days if everything is fine, cheers

Glad you found the video of use. Potatoes do use alot of water and it was most likely that the dry soil looked wet on top but was still dry below.
