  • Peas or Mange Tout?

I’ve planted Peas and Mange Tout for the first time, mainly to improve the condition of the soil (with added bonus of providing a healthy tasty snack). I planted them in alternate rows, but here is the problem... I can’t tell which is which! Is there any easy way of telling? I’ve got a rough idea but I don’t want to spoil the Mange Tout by leaving them too long and equally don’t want to spoil the peas by picking them too early...

I’ve learnt my lesson for next time though!

    Thanks in anticipation.

Mange Tout are usually wider and flatter podded but if you still in doubt just crack open one of each, the mange tout will not be easy to pod but the pea should unzip neatly.

Just an idead for next time. I am growing a variety of mangetout that you can leave to develop into peas called Delikata. So last year I had both!

You should be able to use BOTH in stir fries if picked while small. Once they get bigger it will be self evident as Mange Tout are flat with bubbles along one edge!
