ive never grown cuc's outside apart from this year (my first attempt) - anyway the most popular outdoor varieties are marketmore and telepathy - both can be bought from garden centres

Lidl has outdoor cuc seeds. Much cheaper than the garden centre.

Some years ago, I did well with Crystal Lemon out doors though.
Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

I'm experimenting with marketmore. Have a couple of babies, and will probably thrown them out into the wendy house at the end the month and then lotment after hardening off a little.

If I get a spare this year I'm going to experiment with outdoors. But it isn't very warm around these parts.

Marketmore too. Grown up canes outdoors last year. I did get some very large ones from a couple of the canes but I didn't really take much care of them as I also had a greenhouse variety which gave me enough. They kept the little lad next door interested though. I had given him a couple of plants and he kept saying they were growing huge, then one day he passed a comment on mine and said he wanted to show me his cucumber plant. I didn't know what to say when he brought it over. They had left it in the little pot I had passed over and the cucumber was like a little green tomato but he was so proud of it. He couldn't really understand why mine was bigger so I had to tactfully point out that mine were in the ground. This year he is going to put it in a bigger pot!. He loves cucumbers which is lucky as I pass my extras over.
One of the differences with the outdoor ones is that they have a very prickly skin. These rub off very easily and have no effect on the skin when eating.

ah bless him, it's lovely that a 'lil un' is interested in where his food come from, maybe his parents might let him have his own little patch?

I'm going to try Crystal Lemon and Burpless Tasty Green outdoors. Have read that they should be ok, so fingers crossed!

One of my BTG germinated the day after sowing, in the heated propagator. I was impressed.

Growing Carmen in the greenhouse and Marketmore outside. The marketmore did well outside last year, as did the Chrystal lemons the year before

I've tried cucumbers a few times and got huge plants, but very little fruit. Didn't try last year so might give it a go again this time.

Well mrswadders, he's a little 'un to me but at 8 he would probaby be a bit indignant to be called that.
He is absolutely football mad and is forever kicking a ball around so a veggie patch would really suffer. As it is I build a strong netted framework around my vulnerable stuff not only to keep the footballs off but the cats and foxes out.
He's a lovable, chatty little fella and some of the things he comes out with cause me to choke.
