    Hi
I'm fairly new to this allotment thing, having only had my plot for a year. This year I'm thinking of trying growing some melons in my greenhouse (which is south facing). Any tips and feed back would be greatly appreciated !

Hi Normans Mum, Welcome to the vine.
Sadly I can't advise on the melon thing as I have never managed to grow them successfully even though I have tried. Do let me know if you succeed as I will happily pick your brains if you do. Especially as we are both Manchester based.

I've had a go but have haven't managed a good crop yet. Main problem is the mice and rats on the plot who eat them as soon as they get anywhere near ripe. They need lots of water and I've grown them in the greenhouse or under a cloche. I'm going to have another go this year!
        Good luck with yours.

I'm going to have a go this year too - so we can compare notes! I'd be really peeved if I got them to ripening stage and the mice beat me to it little s**ds! you must have been furious pompeylottie - but you must have been doing lots right to get them that far.
