    my poor sweetcorn

    ..... have been battered by gale force winds all night and strong winds this morning .

    7am saw me staking 8 of them upright - hopefully wont have lost any of them though . Oddly enough the tallest ones, complete with fully opened seedheads and cobs, have weathered the storm best .

    Hope you fellow grapes are weathering the high winds better.

    We had a blustery night here too. My sweetcorn was quite late going in and is still very small so they will be fine I hope. It never ceases to amaze me how resilient plants are. I hope they will recover with the aid of the stakes.

      Very high winds here too. I've put posts around the corners of the sweetcorn bed and tied string all around to hold them all together.

      It's working so far, but my sweetcorn is very close together so they all support each other a bit.

      I am having a problem with a couple of the plants, they seem to be rotting about a foot off the ground and funny growth, I've removed them, but I'm not sure what's going on.

        So windy here it has blown the hanging basket hook and all, scared me to death when i heard it come crashing down touch wood poly tunnel and greenhouse seam OK

          I had to stake two of my sweetcorn plants yesterday, I've not been the the lottie today though so more could need staking hope not!

            Here too....arrived home from holiday today to find several sweetcorn plants flat and my tomatos rolling around all over the patio Think everything will survive.....
            If it ain't broke...fix it til it is!

              I got blown off my bike yesterday (well, I felt it going and jumped ship ).

                I bashed in some poles and strung some string around them last night before the worst of the wind hit, they look fine today.
                I did have to stake one sunflower that had an alarming lean this morning, and I've also tempted fate by putting up a blowaway greenhouse, tied securely [hopefully] to the fence to stick some chillis in to make some room in the greenhouse. Fingers crossed.

                  My sweetcorn are about 18" high and a fair few of them are at 45 degree angles. i got a fair bit of staking to do tomorrow.

                    Mine have gone south as well, my poor beetroot has also suffered :/ Mine already had some support so they seem to be ok .

                      Several of my sweetcorn, which were about 5 foot have fallen over. I have staked them upright again, just hoping that there has been no major root damage!!

                        so far i lost 7 sweetcorn, im really angry because i had just cure them from sum kind of desease i then they just tumble over, im not reaaly expsecting and harvest with the four or five left out spacingy from eachover.
                        Dont judge a plant by it's pot.

                            Thanks Two-Sheds, that's really good to know. When I've recovered from the stress of helping at the school summer fair (if I ever do ) I'll go so some earthing-up.
