My wonderful hubby spent some of his weekend making me a raised bed as I have been well and truley bitten by the GYO bug. I am so pleased as this patch of land down the side of our house was a real mess of old wood and dead bushes and all sorts. I cleared it all out and now it looks like this.
Thanks to everyone for all their advice....your a great bunch.

I have plans for Carrots,broad Beans, Salad leaves (CaCa),potatoes in buckets,toms and cucumber in grow bags, garlic..in already, beetroot, onions and much more. I will grow what I can in the beds...(Getting another made) and the rest in grow bags or containers. I have a large metal wash tub with some drilled holes in for a deep carrot bed.

Raised beds are the best.
Lovely bit of soil you have there. The bit of iron work will be great to trail some squash or gherkins. One of each will take up small space in the bed.

Won't the tree take out a lot of moisture from the raised bed?

Hi Ellasmum, I will have spare tomato, courgette and aubergine plants ready for late May if you would like some putting by to help fill your fabulous looking bed..

Your new raised bed looks great ellasmum! Make sure you keep a clear area to walk all around it. This will mean you can work the bed from the edges rather than walking or leaning on the soil.

Hello Ellasmum, I'm so excited for you as I think you're a couple of weeks in front of me. I'm planning on a proper kitchen garden with raised beds and want to try some square foot gardening there as well. This part of the garden hasn't really been used recently (for reasons which would bore you to death) but OH is on the case and work is started. It's a bit further on than these pics but no beds yet. I hope that will be next week. Keep posting what you're doing so I can follow.

Nice work all round have built four 6x4 beds 12inches deep just waiting
for my dung delivery . We be well rotted which is a bonus Will fill three
with some the other with earth compost etc for the roots .

Hubby has just finished putting 4 raised beds in back garden for me,plus a growing bench along our south facing wall of house and put up new mini green house.Hes been working flat out to clear lottie and do all this for me so I can carry on growing some veggies!
