My garlic is starting to show green shoots but have been lifted by the frost ( and possibly birds), i can see the roots underneath, will it be okay if i leave it or should i put some compost around it???

push them back down they should be ok,i had a fox dig mine up i just replanted

They did that with my onions, but I just pushed them back in and they seem fine

Interesting that you should start this thread, went to my plot earlier and some of my Garlic was pushed or pulled out of the ground too, but my onions were fine. I just pushed them back in and I hope they will be OK.Comment

You shouldn't push garlic or onions into the soil. It compacts the soil underneath them, and when the roots grow they push the bulb up and out of the soil.
It isn't birds. It happens in greenhouses too, where birds don't go.
You should make a hole and drop them in

Feeling about it like Two sheds, that pushing in would break the roots, I'd be tempted to sort of earth them up. Make sense?Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

When I pushed, what I mean is put them back into the hole they came out of and pushed the soil back over them :-) Not pushed really :-)Comment

I planted some yesterday and this morning half of them had been dug out and left on top of the soil. Very neatly dug out, and some had a very neat circular hole round them. I just buried them again.Comment

Just been down to my plot and planted the last of the garlic, about 40 cloves, these are the ones that didnt get in the ground before the snow came in December, then came again in January, then came again this week, darn snow, I hope they are not going in to late only time will tell.Comment
