our toms are about 5/6 weeks behind with all the cold snaps we had in spring,but although they are only just starting to ripen,they are "shirley" and this year they are enormous,averaging from cricket ball size upwards,they are twice the size of plants grown from the same pack of seeds last year,and i thought that year was good,appear more like beefsteak toms than ordinary ones.last week one plant broke the 8ft cane it was attached to and the truss that snapped off,with 13 toms on it weighed in close to 5lb ,so the crop may be late,but looks like a bumper one,and thats growing in the dark of this years summer,you just cant tell,can you?....

You're right, it really has been a funny year. I picked my first greenhouse toms early July and they're almost finished now, making it the shortest season I've ever known. Luckily I have some blight-free bush tomatoes ripening outside so I'll be picking for a few weeks yet but in other years I've still had fresh toms in November.
