  • Kind of know what these are but...

.....wonder if you can help shed some light on them? I bought a pack of gourds/squashes from Aldi or Lidl this year and have a couple of these climbing plants from them. I assume they are squashes or gourds of some sort but not sure if they are edible or not?

If anyone can let me know what they are and more importantly if I can eat them I'd be very grateful

(Obviously ignore the blue lights, they aren't some sort of strange fruit!)

Almost impossible to tell, there are loads of different varieties of squashes and gourds. If it was a mixed pack then I'm guessing they're probably more ornamental as gourds tend not to be good eating though.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Could be a number of things. I'd try one, they look good enough to eat and are not likely to be deadly poisonous. I hereby disclaim all responsibility for the use of information or advice given or implied in this post. 20/08/2009

There is a huge selection of squash on this website, though I am not sure what your ones look like.

I got the squash collection from:

Delfland Nurseries Limited Squash Selection: Clare's Choice

and one of my inmature plants looked similar to yours, it may well change as it matures and hardens.

Thanks everyone. I remembered that I may still have the packaging at home so will have a root around when I get home too.

            It's an adventure isn't it ?
