  • I must need medical attention or summut.

Now is the summer of our abundant harvest, (sorry Will Shakespeare.) There is so much stuff just now it's wonderful. Having waited all these months for something to germinate and develop and fruit I now find myself almost wishing it was over so I can clear the ground and start cultivations all over again. Never bl00dy satisfied that's me! We still have to throw out last years courgette, Broad and french beans from the freezer to make room for this years offerings. I have a couple of raspberry canes outside the back door at home and this year they have covered the late harvest nicely. This week I've stepped out and picked raspberries and blue berries to put straight on the breakfast in the morning. Yum.

I suspect with better planning I could get a more even harvest throughout the year. Just planted some spuds for Christmas and Curly Kale (my first time).

My dad was right, never bl00dy satisfied.

No you are just like the rest of us.

I will plant three courgettes in case one doesn't make it and another doesn't fruit. Result, three courgette plants that all crop well. Hence a glut.

I will put two bags of something in the freezer so we don't run out in the winter. Result throw one away the following year.

After years of growing I am just about getting to grips of how much to grow and store and I also have a circle of friends who use what I can't. Even so I still have gluts and famines!

Our freezer isnt that big and sometimes decides to randomly thaw itself out so we are just getting a better food processor and a jarring/sterilising machine for this years veg. We have gluts now of pumpkin, courgette, parsley and basil but will be sad in the winter when its died out. The toms are all coming good at the same time too so will need to be jarred otherwise we will get sick of them.

Will blend and jar it all for soups and pestos in the winter.
