How close together in raised beds?

my understanding is that you can reduce the space between rows but not space between plants

Great thanks. I was only sowing lettuces and radishes so I think I left about 6 or 7" between each row instead.

Radishes can be sown 1" apart in each direction.

Lettuce about 6" apart, depending on variety and how big you want them (you could sow at 3" and pick every other one, leaving the rest to fatten up)

Thanks. Might go and plant some more between tomorrow them! Just spent lots on seeds which I'm hoping will all fit...although what's the betting I find my seed stash now!

If you are growing salad suff like lettuce, radishes, baby beet etc, try making a shallow drill about 4-6 inches wide and sow the seeds thinly over the whole 6 inches rather than in a drill. There is less thinning to do and rows can be o few inches apart.

While you are at it, try adding carrots & turnips etc leaving longer slower crops the furthest apart.

For example,

Turnip, radish, carrots, rocket, beetroot, lettuce, khol rabi, pak choi, fennell.

The radish, rocket lettuce and pak choi get cropped first leaving the others to grow.

Four weeks later sow another bed,and repeat 4 weeks later and again after that, if you grow too much, give it away or put on the compost heap

It is vital to keep repeating the process and eat everything while it is small,
