  • Help im new

    Hello everyone,

Well this is odd me asking this as I'm a young 25 year old male and I have just moved (3 weeks ago) to a big house in the country side. I work from home as a web designer (work is real slow not had anything this year)

I have started building a veg patch I have just made a space in the garden 5m X 5m with more room to grow if needed.

Now I have come to the point where I need some seeds, all I want is seeds to grow some veg so we can eat them. I have just spent all my money on the tools and stuff to make raised beds.

I hope that someone on here can help me.

I look forward to your replies.

Welcome to the Vine aaron, very commendable that you want to grow your own but I think you'll find there are a few rules governing asking for seeds. Also could you pop your location onto your profile , it helps when you ask questions.

Hi Aaron and welcome. Sorry that you don't have much work on but your new garden will keep you very busy! If you want cheap seeds have a look in Aldi and Lidl or Wilkinsons. They all sell very cheap packets of seeds - I think they're about 29p in Lidl - cheaper than a postage stamp!!
        Happy gardening.

Welcome to the Vine. Have you tried asking on your local freecycle group for spare seeds? I think there's a good chance someone would help out.

It may be worth finding out if there are any allotment associations near to you. There's one near me that has an allotment shop that is open only at weekends. It costs a pound to join and they sell cheaper fertilisers and composts and seeds etc. For instance, a friend of mine bought a 50kg bag of chicken manure pellets for £8 the other day.

Welcome to the Vine Aaron. Poundland also sell, fruit trees etc. Seed packets, certainly those containing lettuce, radish etc contain a lot of seed.
Sow them in small amounts and two weekly during the late spring and summer and a packet of lettuce for instance, may well see you through this year's growing season.
                        Good luck and Happy Gardening.

I got a packet of seeds from Poundworld that contained Coriander, White Lisbon spring onions, Cayenne chillies, Jalapeño chillies and Californian Wonder peppers, all for a pound, obviously
Lidl's are £0.39 a packet (close VC, but no cigar ) so twenty packets of seeds would be just £7.80 and would keep you very busy in the garden, not to mention providing you with a good amount of food if everything grows well.
Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

Welcome to the vine Aaron - I'm sure you will end up with more seeds than you can grow! Have you thought about joining Garden Organic's Heritage Seed Library? They send out free seeds to members.
