    Gravel for paths

    Hi, I am fed up of grass paths and have decided to put a gravel path between my raised beds (in my garden not allotment). I wondered if anyone knew where to get nice, but reasonable gravel. After reading reviews I had pretty much decided on Wickes pea gravel/shingle, which was a great price. However when I went to check out the sample bag it looked very disapointing. Perhaps it was a bad bulk bag, but it didn't look decorative at all and was very small and crumbly.

    I am therefore keen to see if anyone has any recommendations. Thanks.

    Have you checked out your local builders merchants? They often sell to the public, and are likely to be cheaper than a DIY store, and probably with a larger range.

      I use Cotswold stone chippings over membrane for paths. Annual weeds that seed into it pull out easily. Buy it in bulk, as Mothhawk says ^^^^^ its cheaper from a builder's merchants and in a big bag too.

        I buy as VC above, you can also get something called all gold gravel. Both are pricey but when I bought mine a tonne bag was £79 delivered and that's considered cheap.

          Sounds similar to mine - and it has been there for about 5-6 years now - look up the size of the gravel too though, if buying in bulk - I love my bigger-sized 'crunchy' gravel - but my dear departed mum -RIP - used to comment "I'm sure u were meant to buy the smaller size" when she tried to walk over it in her heels LOL

            Just be careful of pea shingle size. Cat litter tray comes to mind

                I use pea gravel in my green house. It's not really decorative.. Serves it purpose though

                Think there's a pic of it in the undercover forum.
