    Dirty finger nails!!!!

    Morning All

    How do you keep your fingernails clean????

    Last night I went out for dinner with friends and after a day at the lottie my fingernails were grubby to say the least! With glad rags on they were a bit of a let down at the dinner table.

    I know the answer is to wear gloves but I dont like to unless there is the possibility of bugs.

    Any tips?

      Give your hair a good wash (not saying that you necessarily need to of course!!). I find that's the best thing for cleaning my nails. Gloves don't always protect them as after a while mud gets inside them too.

        A good old fashioned nail brush, and a moisturising soap (because it seems to help the muck 'slide' out better...)

          My hands are a disgrace at the moment. Hate wearing gloves unless I'm cutting brambles, and although I scrub my hands and nails and use handcream (when I remember) my nails are stained, not just dirty.

            Scrape your nails across a bar of soap before you start gardening. The soap under your nails will stop the soil getting in so deep and makes it much easier to wash out.

              Dark nail varnish hides a multitude of sins! Of course, I don't know whether you are male or female, but kind of assuming you're the latter as I've tended to find men don't worry about this kind of thing too much!

                I use the old sugar and olive oil scrub too. Sometimes after a full day at the plot, my hands feel as if I'm wearing leather gauntlets and look as if they belong on something Howard Carter and Lord Caernarvon dug up! A combination of bath, scrub, nail brush and slatherings of hand cream afterwards, brings them back to the land of the living!

                    I quite agree - those things work for me. I find the olive oil and sugar removes deep staining.

                      I agree, sugar scrub, nail brush and then an old fashioned nail file. I occasionally have to apologise to customers for the state of my hands

                        Clean the bathroom with plenty of bleach then slather on hand cream. Result.

                            Knead some bread.........that'll clean em!

                            Its not only my nails but my weeding fingers (especially after dandelion weeding).

                            It doesn't help that I have silty soil and my plot once belonged to a chimney sweep!

                              You are correct though it would clean them. Pizza dough maybe and pretend the black bits are cracked pepper or herbs :-0
