I believe they need slightly different growing conditions: as yet I have a handful of toms, but no cukes, so I'm by no means an expert

I've done silly well with both this year (I pretty gobsmacked tbh). I did 1 cucumber plant that gave me 10 cucumbers, 6 pinapple tomato plants (the type that have the lanterns around them - not sure if this would make a difference?) and had about 12 gardeners toms - although I did have to move these out due to space problems.
I read up a wee bit beforehand and don't remember coming across anything that said not to mix...

        Hi Marko
I have always done it with no problems. The trouble is that cucumbers are prone to root problems, I had it slightly this year and thought I was going to lose the plant. Luckily I saved it, with some extra compost around the foot of the plant and keeping it cool. (more about it on cucumber section on my blog)

I've grown them together for years with no problems. I know they require slightly different conditions but I find that my south facing greenhouse seems to suit them both..... and the peppers. Just checked and I've had 37 cucumbers (a small variety) and 21lbs of tomatoes so far this year.

I do it every year with no problems, am now getting basket loads of both every time I go in both the polytunnel or greenhouse Tonight I will be making cucumber jam for the first time (not too sure to be honest!) and a tomato and courgette lasagne with a mushroom topping from the shrooms that OH foraged yesterday. Only having to buy the pasta, milk and cheese

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Mine are fine so far (first time) - the cucumbers probably need more watering than they get, but I spray vaguely with a hose once a week in the rough direction of the roof on the cucumber side - and they keep growing! They are in Morrisons buckets, I do have them (most) sitting on large gravel trays to retain the water from twice-daily watering (automatic system)
