we're getting our seed potatoes tomorrow - I cant remember from last year whether to chit in the dark or to chit in the light? please can someone remind me?

I was lazy I planted mine straight in the ground in the tunnel without chitting, think of pulling them up to chit

I did mine in the light, in a cool room downstairs resting in egg boxes. It took about three weeks and I had a good crop.Comment

I used to chit but it really does not make any difference to me, I learned that from my bad spud experience last year. They still grow, may take a couple of extra weeks to get going but if you have limited room it really doesnt matter.
I will probably chit some, just to experiment, when I have got them from tattieman. I would check out his website as I have given it to people on my site!Dont worry about tomorrow, live for today

Chitting mine in egg boxes on a coffee table in front room with radiator turned off, it is light in there but cool but not as cold as green house.
You will know if it is light enough because if not you'll get very long white shoots not the healthy green ones you need. Monty advises to rub off all but the healthiest shoot for planting out else you'll get too much green foliage. Hope that helps abit.When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. I usually chit mine in the front room by the window. They are away from heat and it's always less than ten degrees in here! Usually get good results. Didn't do so well last year when I didn't chit.Comment

great help everyone, i think i'll put them in my daughters bedroom window as shes away back tomorrow, so i'll be turning the heating right down in her room but it will still be about 10 degComment

I'll be doing mine in what we laughingly call the conservatory which in actual fact is a lean too which varies between a dumping ground, cat feeding zone and really really handy place for propogating, by March there'll be no free space what so ever.
