Most of my chillie plants have grown well but not fruited due to lack of sun & generally a rubbish summer & I guess they wont now , its too late. My question is can I treat them as perennials( if I keep them under cover) to fruit next year? The varieties are Scotch Bonnet, Cayenne & naga Jolokia. Any advice please.

Just noticed an earlier thread on subject which answers my question. Sorry -

I,m glad about that as I have loads of plants which I nurtured through thick & thin. Sowed them in Feb in a propagator.Comment

I'm surprised that people are having problems with chillies. Up here in Cumbria we're not known for our tropical summers but my three cayenne plants have produced masses of fruit...so much that I won't bother growing any next year, having frozen loads of green ones and dried enough red ones to last a long while.Comment

I've also had masses of fruit, but not a single one has ripened yet. grr. The green ones taste Ok, but really not much heat in them!If it ain't broke...fix it til it is!

Heat is dependent on watering...water too much and they loose their heat!
As for colour...bring the plant in on the window sill they should turn.Impossible is not a fact its an opinion...
