hi kwa50,the little sprouts grow from the leaf axles,you know when they are ready,as will look like mini cabbage,there is plenty of time yet for them to grow,maybee christmas ?,to harvest them,snap them downwards,they can be very stuborn,as the leaves die of and yellow it's best to remove them,that way you keep out unwanted problems,mine to are only tiny,check the leaves for any caterpillars,then sqish,or spray with garlic/chilly,home made spray.

EEK! my whole plant still looks like a cabbage. I assume that they will eventually gain some height? or did I buy the wrong plants?

Our plants are about 2 to 3 feet high, all have holes in the leaves! There are small sprouts forming, where the leaves come out of the main stem. They're nowhere close to big enough to harvest yet though.

I have about three hundred sprouts plants (all open pollinated varieties) and they are about two - three feet in height, generally looking quite healthy, not too many holes and have sprouts forming now - am hoping to get first pickings about end of November.

Mine are about 2 feet high and have tiny sprouts forming. I think they'll be a bit "floppy" (is that the right word?) because as a complete novice growing brassicas I didn't know how firm they really needed to be planted so the plants themselves are a bit wobbly and crooked. I don't mind too much though, it's all a learning curve and the chooks are going to be getting plenty of greens throughout the winter

Mine have been absolutely shredded by caterpillars.

I covered them with enviromesh but the darned butterflies got in anyway. Then, of course, because they were covered - out of sight, out of mind - didn't think to check them. Hopefully they'll recover. The sprouts are various different sizes from pea to already-blown full size (but I did sow early and a number of different varieties that mature at different times).

mine are also about 2-3 ft high, some have completely blown sprouts, some are about eating-size and some are still tiny buds....

but most have blown due to loose soil

More trampling next year then ?

I planted a dozen plants earlier this year. Alonside I planted 3 courgette plants. The leaves of the courgette plants have cut out light getting to 4 of the sprout plants and as a result, these plants are considerably smaller (about 18" high -vs- 36" for the others). Once the courgettes have been spent and removed, will the smaller ones catch up?

Thanks everyone for the replies. Sooooo I am not the only one with holes in the leaves. I assume this wont affect the actual brussels.

Didnt realise they take so long to grown, still would be lovely if we could be eating them for Christmas lunch.
