Brassica confusion.

OK so I have read the books and am still not sure..

What needs liming ?
What needs really firming in ?
What needs manuring ?

I am growing ...

Sprouts
cabbage (Hispi)
calabrese
Kale
Romanesco

So I thought I would ask the experts

You have to loose sight of the shore sometimes to cross new oceans

I would be a perfectionist, but I dont have the time

They all need firming in, esp the tall ones that stand over winter (or else they get windrock: get loose).

They only need liming if you have acidic soil (I never bother)

Use manure as a soil improver if you like, but not at the same time as liming (it tends to be acidic). I never bother.

Chicken pellets are alkaline, so you can use those in place of lime, if you like
