  • Am i to late?

Just wondering if i may be to late in sowing some more carrots? early nantes 2. I did sow some jan/feb but as i had only just started out with this new hobbie as such, i made a terible mistake i sown about 10-15 seeds per moduel and didnt thin them out so there all a little weird looking as you could emagine...So i was thinking of sowing some more over the next few days but is it 2 late? i've also got some second earlys & maincrop potato to go in yet would they be ok going in now?

You can still sow some maincrop in July : Carrot Growing - In depth guide to growing carrots

Carrots can be sown for a few weeks yet. Probably won't get to monster size but big enough. Bit late for spuds but with the current unpredictable weather it would be worth a go if you already have the spuds and the spare ground.

My carrot crop has been ruined by the fly and am thinking of re-sowing. Is the carrot fly active all year round?

I've sown Early Nantes 2 with success at the end of August in previous years, but I think that's pushing it.

It was really on the basis that there was nothing else growing in the space and the only downside was going to do was use a few of the 5000 seeds that seem to come with each packet - and it worked.

Give it a go and get them in!

Grew some carrots in the cold frame in pots last year so didn't have room for a second sowing. Have some in the garden this year - hoping to pick the first ones today, but as I only have a tiny area I haven't room for a 2nd sowing at the mo. Have read that any variety sold as 'early' is ok for a second sowing - according to the article I was reading 'early' is a euphemism for 'quick to mature'. I've also read that carrot seed doesn't last well from one season to the next and that it is better to buy fresh each year (did read this in a seed catalogue though),so I guess if you've got room you've got nothing to lose. Might try it myself if I clear enough space with tonight's harvest.
