Default Hunting for a 2nd hand greenhouse

Hi there

I'm on the look out for a cheap n cheerful greenhouse for my allotment.
I am based in the Midlands and At the moment I don't have space for a really big greenhouse, so a small to medium sized old green house would be brilliant.
Eventually I have visions of a huge plot with a fruit cage built in with a place for my parrots to play and stretch their wings in when Im working there

Cheers Debs

Default 2nd Hand greenhouse

Hi Debs
You could try E-bay- there may be something suitable - failing that, check the small ads in your local paper or Loot - you never know what you'll find.
Good luck

I've seen quite a lot of greenhouses in my local papers as long as you are prepared to dismantle them!

Hi Debs,

Our local paper has quite a few. I don't know where you are in the WM but the Cov evening telegraph usually has some as well and our local chippy gives away these free papers (friday something it think) they have them or keep you eye on the local supermarkets as they have a for sale board (well our ASDA does) and Midland shires farmers (I think they are called countrywide stores now).

Can't think of any more ... need more tea

go for as big as you can get...like my question on sheds..size does matter!
We planted a jelousia peach in ours and in its 1st year produced a few fruit which were wonderful. I know your supposed to wait a year to fruit... Unfortunately it seems to be taking over the greenhouse so just go for the biggest you can find!! We can try and produce the 1st bonsai version in GB or just get a second one for the toms/cucs and peppers/chillies! ( ours is 6x8)

Hi I got my greenhouse from the local ads - normally an 8'x10' would cost in the region of approx £500 new - I got it for £50, mind you I had to got and dismantle it, which wasn't too bad and I am glad that I did as it meant that I was able to remember how to put it back together again. I am also glad I got a larger one. Best place to look is E-bay or the local ads the local ads tend to be cheaper.

It could be a sad case of greenhouse envy!!

Talking about size - I distinctly heard my husband mention something about a poly tunnel & wouldn't it be great to have one - I havent finished putting the glass in the greenhouses yet!!

What next!

Debs,

I was looking at "readers sheds" as posted in another thread and came across the design for a greenhouse. It was covered in Polythene on a wooden frame, but if you did it right, you could replace the poly with glass or plastic at a later date.

I'll find the info out and post it in the showcase.

Do try your local freecycle. I put a want on yesterday for a 10x8 greenhouse yesterday and bagged one today already dismantled (perhaps not so good) and ready to go.

Bang on.
