  • Kale

    Hello everyone,

Was wondering about Kale - I know it is of brassica family, but I have never eaten it before. Can anyone tell me what does it taste like (I mean, is it the same as winter cabbage), how do you cook it, so I could make up my mind whether to give it a go or not?

    Thanks a lot in advance

I grow curley Kale- it's the only green veg that my son would happily eat!
      ( so it's clearly not a very strong/yuk flavour!!)
      Here's a link about Kale-

I think they describe the flavour wrong- it's not as strong as they imply.
Mine is ripped off the main leaf rib and steamed for a few minutes - then rolled in butter YUM
Infact...I'm going to go and buy some baby plants today now that you've reminded me!

thank Two Sheds & Nicos, having red all that would definitely try some curly and Black Tuscany.

Would they benefit from growing in GH during winter or would it be OK outside? Where we are, temperature rarely drops below 0C and we do not get much snow either, but when it's get windy (which happens a lot!!!), it feels like -10C :-(

We had -7C for one night this winter and mine was fine.
          I'd stick it outside.
