Does anyone have any fresh (named variety) Rhubarb seed they'd like to do a swap with for maybe Chilli or Tomato seed.

Yes, Rhubarb is normally grown from crowns, but it is also grown from seed as well, some seeds companies have it listed as a stock item. Seed grown Rhubarb may not always come true, but the difference is very minute, if any.Originally posted by rana View PostRhubarb is normally grown from crowns (a sort of underground tuber). I have yet to see it sold as seeds. Gardeners tend to cut off flower heads as they weaken the plant therefore seed is not normally available.I love growing tomatoes.

I grew about 20 Victoria from seed last year having read "Variable from seed, have to weed out the runts" etc. ... I can't see any difference between them! (unless they are all runts!)Last edited by Kristen; 26-02-2011, 07:37 AM.K's Garden blog the story of the creation of our garden

Ophiopogon, three Summers ago we got to 49C here, but 44C isn't uncommon. The Rhubarb copes with the heat, although I usually cover some plants with old sheets as protection on the bad days.
We're in our Autumn now, but it is cooling down for us.I love growing tomatoes.

If all goes well, I might be able to help you out with the Timperley Early, although I'm not allowed to accept anything in return until I've been here a month.
Our England is a garden, and such gardens are not made
By singing-'Oh how beautiful!" and sitting in the shade,
While better men than we go out and start their working lives
At grubbing weeds from gravel paths with broken dinner-knives. ~ Rudyard Kipling
