Default Jam virgin - please help

I'm in the process of making the GYO (April issue) Rhubarb and Ginger jam.

It tells me to put the ginger in a muslin bag during cooking then take it out and chuck - I don't have a muslin bag or anything closely resembling one - could I
a) just chuck in chunk of ginger and remove at end
b) use an enclosed spoon-type tea strainer

Hah! you say that PW but when the OH puts pieces of ginger in dhal, they always seem to disappear, until they reappear on my spoon - yuck! Can't see how a lump of ginger will really cause a problem piskie, unless like me you don't like eating the stuff!

That's quite an in-depth knowledge of Bridgette Jones Paul, something you want to share with us...?

*LadyWayne had to explain to me what you meant by the way. Honest.

Didn't the old style dried processed peas(marrowfat) have a muslin bag in the box?
Can you still get them though?

OK, how about the funny little bag that comes with the washing tablets? There's a new one in every box - we've got lots we haven't used and they are recycled for things like collecting together small bulbs, keeping labels in which always fall out of their packets....don't see why
