  • Home making goats milk Yoghurt question

    Hi all
I have been making yoghurt myself for a good few months now, but sadly my DD has an allergy to cows milk. I wanted to buy some goats milk yoghurt but its SOOO expensive (£3.50 for half a litre ) and therefore will have to make my own.
My question is, can I use cows milk probiotic organic as a starter with goats milk - the theory being the more I use my own home-made yoghurt as the next starter, the more diluted the cows milk will be? Or do I have to use goats milk yoghurt as the starter?
(NB she is not so severely allergic that she will collapse if taken by accident)
    Thanks for your advice xx

If it's any help, I've done it the other way round - used a goat's milk starter for cow's milk yoghurt, and it was fine. Never occurred to me that it might not work come to think of it...t'was was all we had in the 'fridge at the time!

NP could you not buy the expensive goat yogurt as a one off and use that as a starter, HFW made yogurt last week in a warmed flask and a Tupperware container left on a heater.

That is how I make mine, £1.29 flask from the pound shop, wrap it in tea towels on the radiator and hey presto yoghurt.

Thanks all, I just didnt want to pay £3.50 for the goats milk yoghurt in the first place.
          I use a flask too

I think I'll give it a go, with the cows milk starter and watch this space for the end result
